The popular messaging service WhatsApp will no longer work on older iPhones from October 24, 2022.
As of the date mentioned, Apple users will need at least an iPhone 5s to send and receive messages using WhatsApp. That is the “oldest” smartphone still in circulation that supports iOS 12, and that is a requirement for later versions of WhatsApp.
The devices that still run iOS 10 or iOS 12 are mainly iPhones of type 5 and 5c, according to the MacRumors website. These date back to 2012 and 2013 respectively.
Officially, WhatsApp already requires iOS 12 today, this webpage states, but in practice, older versions can also work with it. Although it cannot be ruled out that certain advanced functions of the messaging app will not work (or not work properly).
