People who want to make a direct financial contribution to Ukraine can now do so in cryptocurrencies such as bitcoin.
Along with crypto firms FTX and Everstake, the Ukrainian government has created a website where donations can be made and forwarded to the country’s central bank.
The Aid For Ukraine website allows donations in bitcoin, ethereum, and dogecoin. At around 7 a.m. UK time, the counter stood at more than 48.5 million dollars (more than 41 million pounds).
“Every helmet, bulletproof vest, and night vision goggles saves the lives of Ukrainian soldiers,” the minister of Digital Transformation of the country attacked by Russia in late February wrote on the site. “Many thanks to everyone in the crypto community for supporting Ukraine!”
The money will also be used to support civilians in urgent need of humanitarian assistance.
