The stock exchanges in New York will close their doors for Labour Day on Monday. Stock market trading will resume on Wall Street on Tuesday.
The indicators went even lower into the long weekend on Friday. Technology companies were once again sold.
The Dow Jones index eventually ended 0.6 percent in the negative at 28,133.31 points.
The broadly compiled S&P 500 fell 0.8 percent to 3,426.96 points, and the Nasdaq technology exchange lost 1.3 percent to 11,313.13 points.
