Russian Nuclear Weapons on Alert

Russian Defense Minister Sergey Shoygu has said the country’s nuclear deterrent weapons had been put on a state of alert. He specifically mentioned the readiness of the Northern Fleet and the Fleet in the Pacific and that of long-range bombers.

President Vladimir Putin on Sunday ordered the nuclear power to be ready after he said NATO had made aggressive statements. Russia is one of the most potent nuclear weapons powers globally, Putin warned.

He denounced the hostile attitude of the West and “unprecedented illegal economic sanctions”. He called it “sanctions of the Realm of the Lie”, meaning the West.

The economic sanctions hit the country hard. The national currency ruble is plummeting, and people are going to banks to withdraw money from their accounts.

According to the RIA Novosti news agency, Finance Minister Anton Siluanov has emphasized that the Russian treasury has sufficient resources to meet social obligations during the economic sanctions against the country.
