President Xi Jinping’s Teachings Take Root in Chinese Education

In China, the teachings of President Xi Jinping are incorporated into the educational curriculum. Never since Mao Zedong, the founder of the People’s Republic of China, has the ideology of a leader been so systematically taught.

In this way, Xi Jinping strengthens his influence on society.

In 2018, the Chinese government enshrined Xi Jinping’s teachings in the constitution. Since then, teaching has been gradually introduced in various universities and in the after-school activities of pro-government youth. But now, the teaching is incorporated into the curriculum of all Chinese schools and universities on a very systematic basis.

The Chinese Ministry of Education says Xi Jinping’s teachings will help Chinese youth “grow up to be the builders and perpetrators of Chinese communism with a deeply moral, intellectual, physical and aesthetic foundation.” The focus will be on so-called “job training” to develop the “hardworking spirit of the students”, the Ministry of Education said.

It is the first time since the founder and first leader of the Chinese Communist People’s Republic, Mao Zedong, that a leader’s ideas have been embedded in education in such a systematic way. It has also been since Mao that those ideas have been labelled “learn”. Thus, Xi Jinping further strengthens his influence on Chinese society.
