Pogba also Treated racist after Missing Penalty. Once again, a Premier League player has become the target of social media racism.
This time, Manchester United star Paul Pogba was the victim.
The Red Devils drew 1-1 against Wolverhampton Wanderers on Monday evening.
Pogba missed a penalty in that league match.
He was then racially attacked on social media.
He is after Yakou Meite of Reading, which will play in the Championship,
and Chelsea’s Tammy Abraham, the third English player,
to be confronted with racism within a week after missing a penalty.
Strongest possible action
Manchester United says in a statement that it will “do everything it can” to identify the people,
who are guilty of racist misconduct and to take “the strongest possible action” against them.
“We call on the companies behind social media to do the same.
We have zero-tolerance for racism or discrimination.”
Teammate Harry Maguire, argues on Twitter that anyone who wants to open a social media account,
should only be able to do so with a passport or driver’s license.
Marcus Rashford also played for teammate Pogba.
“Manchester United is one family.
Pogba is a big part of that family. If you attack him, you’ll attack us all.”
The attacker also called on Twitter to do something.
According to the anti-racism organisation Kick It Out,
the number of racist incidents in English football has progressed by 43 percent in the last season, from 192 to 274.
