Streaming company Netflix has reached an agreement to acquire Finnish game developer Next Games. The company behind the game is based on the Netflix hit series Stranger Things.
Next Games was founded in 2013 and makes smartphone games. For Netflix, the company developed the puzzle game Stranger Things: Puzzle Tales. At the end of last year, Next Games had 120 employees and a turnover of about 27.2 million euros in 2021, 95 percent coming from payments made in the games.
Netflix says it will pay €2.1 per share for Next Games, representing a valuation of approximately €65 million. The board of directors of the listed Finnish company unanimously supported the offer.
Netflix sees games as an important extension of its streaming service. So last year, it launched its first five mobile games and also bought another developer, Night School Studio.
