Mouth Masks Mandatory Again at Indoor Locations in Israel

Israel is reintroducing the mask requirement at indoor locations as the number of new corona infections increases. Prime Minister Naftali Bennett warned a few days ago that this measure was imminent.

The government had previously decided to postpone the arrival of foreign tourists by a month.

Over the past week, several hundred infections per day have been reported. On Thursday, there were more than two hundred, the highest daily figure in more than two months. The authorities think that this is probably due to the Delta variant of the coronavirus.

At the beginning of June, the daily average was below a few dozen. At the height of the coronavirus crisis in Israel, more than 10,000 new cases were reported per day.

The mask obligation inside was lifted on 15 June as one of the last corona measures, after the number of infections had fallen sharply thanks to a vigorous vaccination campaign. More than 55 percent of the population is fully vaccinated.

More than 840,000 people in Israel have tested positive since the pandemic began. The coronavirus has killed more than 6,400 people.
