Merkel: Lockdown Due to Coronavirus Until the Beginning of April

German Chancellor Angela Merkel expects her country to be in lockdown until the beginning of April to avert the corona virus’s spread.

According to the newspaper Bild, she said this to MPs from her party CDU / CSU.

“If we fail to stop the British variant of the virus, we will have ten times as many cases by Easter. We need another eight to 10 weeks of tough action,” Merkel said.

The Robert Koch Institute (RKI), the German counterpart of the RIVM, reported 12,802 new cases on Tuesday morning.

That is a minor increase compared to the day before when the RKI reported 12,497 new cases.

In total, the coronavirus has been diagnosed in 1,933,826 people in Germany since the start of the pandemic and at least 41,577 Germans have died from the effects of Covid-19.
