US companies and governments created the newest jobs last month since last summer.
Therefore, the increase was much more potent than expected, and the unemployment rate fell by 0.2 percentage points to 6 percent, the US Department of Labor reports in its monthly jobs report.
In March, 916,000 jobs were added to companies, minus the agricultural sector and governments. On average, economists had expected an increase of 660,000 jobs, but that became many more.
In February, 468,000 jobs had been added, and things went better than before. Initially, the ministry had reported on the balance of 379,000 new jobs for that month.
The job figures seem to indicate that the US labour market is recovering from the corona pandemic, aided by the vaccinations against the virus and the US government’s support measures against the crisis.
Earlier this week, payslip processor ADP also came up with positive figures. There it was about the most substantial increase in jobs in six months. On the other hand, the number of new claims for unemployment benefits had unexpectedly increased last week.
