Italy Introduces Curfew to Stop Coronavirus

Italy will impose a curfew from Thursday evening to stop the resurgence of the coronavirus.

 

Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte has signed a decree to this end, Italian media report. No one is allowed to leave without a valid reason from 10 pm to 5 am.

Conte is also expected to announce other measures on Wednesday. For example, shopping centres will remain closed until December 3.

Travel between the worst affected regions is being restricted. In those areas, cafes, restaurants and most shops have to close.

Sports halls, cinemas and theatres in Italy are already closed. Caf├ęs and restaurants must close by 6:00 pm, and the reception of guests at home is limited to six people. There is also a duty to mask masks.

The first wave of corona severely hit Italy and now has nearly 40,000 deaths from the virus. In Europe, there are only more in the United Kingdom.
