Foreign Tech Companies Must Now Have Russian Offices

Foreign tech companies must now have a branch in Russia if they want to continue to offer services in the country.

President Vladimir Putin signed a law that stipulates that. The rule is another step by Russia to get a better grip on tech companies.

Russia has been working for some time to become less dependent on foreign tech companies. For example, those companies must also store data from Russian customers in Russia.

Moscow is also forcing tech companies to remove posts it deems illegal. When Twitter recently refused, the speed of the messaging service was reduced as a punishment, causing users to suffer.
