Death Toll in German District of Ahrweiler Rises to 117, Already 165 Dead Across Germany

The number of fatalities from the severe flooding in the district of Ahrweiler, in the German state of Rhineland-Palatinate, has risen to 117, a police spokesman said on Monday in Koblenz.

 

In addition, at least 749 people were injured. It is unclear how many people are still missing. On Sunday, the death toll from the floods in Rhineland-Palatinate was still at 110.

The total death toll from the severe weather in Germany thus rises to 165. At least 47 deaths were reported in North Rhine-Westphalia on Sunday. Flooding has also occurred in the state of Bavaria, in the south of the country, in which one person has died.

Horst Seehofer, the German interior minister, will visit a hospital in Ahrweiler on Monday.
