China Has Signed Up to A United Nations Treaty to Regulate Arms Trade

China has signed up to a United Nations treaty to regulate the arms trade. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced this on Monday.

A ministry spokesman says China is always committed to “more peace and stability” in the world. The 2014 UN treaty is designed to control the flow of arms to conflict regions.

“We have always strictly controlled exports of our military products,” said the spokesperson. “We only export those products to sovereign countries and not to other militias.”

The United States announced its withdrawal from the treaty last year. Countries that have signed the treaty must keep track of who’s arms are sold to.

It should also be forbidden to use weapons to violate human rights or attack civilians.
