Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro has tested positive for Coronavirus. He announced the news himself this afternoon at a press conference.
Bolsonaro was wearing a mouth mask and stated that he is not seriously ill.
The 65-year-old president who has repeatedly downplayed the threat of the virus and previously compared Corona to a “minor flu” has been tested.
The result of this has been announced today. In a live interview with news channel CNN Brasil, Bolsonaro said he felt “excellent”.
Bolsonaro told supporters in front of the presidential palace earlier this week that he visited the hospital to get tested after local media reported that the president would have symptoms of illness.
The newspaper O Globo reported that the Brazilian president began to complain about fatigue on Saturday evening. A day later, Bolsonaro would have become unwell.
According to Bolsonaro, research in the hospital has shown that his lungs are “clean.” His test results come just three days after his lunch with US Ambassador Todd Chapman in Brazil. It is not clear whether Chapman should also be tested now.
