US President Joe Biden will undergo a bowel examination on Friday and will be under anaesthesia. As a result, he will temporarily transfer power to Vice President Kamala Harris, the White House announced.
The routine colonoscopy, called a colonoscopy, coincides with US presidents’ annual health check at Walter Reed National Medical Center near Washington. He will be sedated only; briefly, the White House said.
Biden turns 79 on Saturday. His last medical examination in December 2019 revealed no serious problems. However, he did have an irregular heartbeat and a relatively high amount of fat in his blood. He takes medication for that.
Biden was hospitalized in 1988 after several veins had burst.
