Benefactor Bill Gates said Wednesday that 16 pharmacists would scale up their production to distribute an approved corona vaccine as soon as possible. He told this during an event of the United Nations.
“In this agreement, the companies commit, among other things, to scale-up production at an unprecedented speed and ensure that approved vaccines are widely distributed as early as possible,” said Gates.
The wealthy philanthropist Bill Gates has already invested 100 million euros in a corona vaccine through his foundation.
He has also worked with GAVI, a vaccine alliance founded by Gates, to ensure that 100 million additional doses of corona vaccines become available to developing countries.
At the same UN event, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, the head of the World Health Organization (WHO), highlighted the corona toll of one million confirmed this week. Although according to Tedros, the actual number is higher.
Tedros also said 167 countries have now joined the WHO-led COVAX vaccination facility. According to him, 70 percent of the world’s population is now represented here, and the list of participating countries is growing every day.
COVAX aims to deliver at least 2 billion approved vaccines by the end of next year.
